That’s why. There are a lot of different ways to present a wrestling match. Just adding a slight change, or a gimmick as it is better known, is a great way to make things that much more interesting. With so many different ways to set things up, it makes sense to come up with something that suits a promotion well. That is the case with AEW and it was on display this week.
This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite featured a rather amazing main event as Thunder Rosa defeated Britt Baker in an anything goes Lights Out match. The two beat the fire out of each other with both women bleeding and all kinds of weapons being used. The match has received quite a bit of praise and a lot of that was due to how it was set up. It turns out that it was planned that way for a reason.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Rosa vs. Baker was made into a Lights Out match as AEW President Tony Khan views the stipulation as AEW’s signature gimmick match and the one that they use to end feuds once and for all. The match has been used to end feuds in AEW before, including between Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley at Full Gear 2019. There is no word on what is next for either Rosa or Baker.
This was pretty amazing. Check out how the match went and the aftermath:
Opinion: This makes sense and it certainly did feel like the kind of match that was supposed to wrap everything up once and for all. Rosa and Baker can face off again in the future if something new happens, but for now, this was the big blowoff match for the two of them. I loved the match and it was the kind of violent spectacle that it needed to be, so well done all around.
