Take two for AEW. One of the biggest attractions for a wrestling show is to have the events run live. With such a strong possibility for spoilers out there, wrestling airing live is the only surefire way to keep things under wraps. Granted, things are a little bit different at the moment as the lack of fans in an arena can keep any results from getting out. This means a segment not being live is not the worst thing, which was on display Wednesday.
This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite was highlighted by a confrontation between Chris Jericho and Matt Hardy. The big selling point of the segment was Broken Matt being able to speak on his own for the first time in a good while. Some people might have gotten more out of this than others, but there was a part of the segment that went so badly that it had to be redone at someone’s request.
According to Chris Jericho during a Facebook Live Q&A, the Hardy/Jericho segment that aired on Dynamite was the second version of the segment to be taped. Jericho disliked the first version of the segment and wanted to redo it, but the sunlight due to the venue being outdoors would have caused a problem with making fans believe the segment was live. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the second version of the segment was taped during the Kip Sabian vs. Darby Allin match, which had been taped the day before.
The segment was rather fascinating. Check out both parts of the version that aired:
Opinion: This is something that is going to happen every now and then but if this is the segment that aired, I’m not sure what the original version was going to look like. I wasn’t huge on the segment for the most part, though I’m sure there were fans who certainly liked what they saw. That being said, I do appreciate that Jericho knew that something was wrong with what was there and that it needed to be changed. Not everyone would have done that so good for them.
