They had a plan. Occasionally you will see a wrestler written off of television for one reason or another. One of the most common situations is due to injury, which can lead to all kinds of different resolutions. This can include a wrestler’s injury being used as part of a storyline, which was the case last week. Now we know a bit more about how everything came together.

Last week on SmackDown, Santos Escobar turned on Rey Mysterio and attacked him. Escobar injured Mysterio’s knee, which was followed by Mysterio announcing that he had undergone knee surgery. According to PWInsider.com, the turn would have taken place with or without the injury. Had Mysterio not been hurt, the two would have moved straight into matches on live events.

Opinion: That is an interesting way to go but it shows that WWE was thinking on their feet. Mysterio was going to be out of action so tie it into the story that they are telling. That makes things a little bit better and now I’m curious to see where it goes when Mysterio is back. WWE has put together a story and that is the right way to go, which has been the case for the better part of ever in wrestling.
