Never bet against a doctor. Believe it or not, we’re coming up on five years of the New Day. The team started off all the way back in 2014 and has been going strong ever since, turning into one of the few constants over the last several years. The team has been incredibly popular for a long time now, though that wasn’t always the case. As it turns out, that lack of popularity was a key to their status.

New Day member Xavier Woods recently appeared on the Corridor Cast and told a story about the formation of the New Day. Woods talked about how the team wasn’t being booed but knew the potential was there. He made a bet with Vince McMahon, saying that he could get the team booed within four weeks or he would be sent back down to developmental. McMahon took the bet and Woods never left the main roster. You can listen to the full story in the video below.

That’s a big bet. Check out Woods’ story of putting his job on the line:

Opinion: It’s almost hard to imagine a WWE without the New Day. They’re one of the most successful groups the company has ever seen and they’re still incredibly popular to this day. I know their biggest days are behind them, but the kind of longevity that the team has gotten is astounding. I’m not sure how long the team is going to last, but it’s still fun to see them and that should be the case for a long time to come.
