Chris Jericho was on Sirius XM’s Busted Open Radio where he explained why he didn’t ask WWE for ‘permission’ to have the NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 12 match against Kenny Omega.

Jericho is currently not under contract with WWE. He told Busted Open that he informed Vince McMahon about six weeks ago about the match against Omega.

He explained that McMahon seemed “super excited” for the match, despite Jericho not telling him until the deal with NJPW had been finalized.

Jericho had the following to say about why he didn’t ask:

“I didn’t ask him for his permission, but I didn’t have to. It’s not like it’s some kind of behind the scenes screw job. It’s taking a great opportunity and helping the business, helping Kenny Omega, helping New Japan. But guess what? It helps Chris Jericho, which in turn helps the WWE. So I think all of that stuff is stuff you take into consideration.”

“I had no contractual obligation, but it was respect.”
