WWE today confirmed it’s plans to host an exclusive media event on January 8, 2014.
As previously reported, WWE sent teaser invitations out to the media last week, highlighting the event would be hosted by WWE Chairman and CEO, Vince McMahon.
Very little is know aboiut the event itself, with the official invite recieved by media outlets teasing a ‘groundbreaking announcement’. John Cena, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels and Triple H are all featured on the invite and are scheduled to feature at the event.
The event takes place during the 2014 International CES week, where major electronic and media organisations announce new products and features. During the same week in 2012, WWE unvieled the ‘second screen experience’ in the WWE App. The app was made available just a few days later.
It’s widely speculated that the event will be the launch announcement of the long-awaited WWE Network. The network, which has been in development since 2010, is expected to be very similar to the Netflix format of on-demand broadcasting, along with the availability of a traditional rolling channel. A subscription fee of around $10-15 has been suggested by several media outlets, with WWE’s monthly PPV events, including WrestleMania XXX said to be included in the subscription offering.
WrestlingRumors will have more on the event and the upcoming WWE Network as we get it, and we’ll be covering the Jan 8 event live here on the site.
