Earlier this month, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon appeared on “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s podcast live on the WWE Network. During his appearance, McMahon took several shots at the WWE locker room, in an attempt many speculate was to get talent motivated.
However, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the tactic may have done the opposite of that.
WWE morale is reportedly at an all-time low right now due to McMahon’s comments about how no one is “grabbing the brass ring.” Additionally, it is said many felt slighted when he openly put stock in Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Bray Wyatt, but “buried” guys like Cesaro who have worked to get over organically.
Triple H, the executive vice president for talent relations in WWE, then apparently gave a backstage pep talk to the talent following the interview in an attempt to do damage control. Per the report, however, it mainly backfired, with many of the veterans who have worked diligently for McMahon being said to feel put down and annoyed.
Despite this, there is still a positive stigma with Triple H for the work he’s done in NXT, but that does not currently translate to the main roster.
Editor’s Note
The comments made for great television, but were undoubtedly crushing to the locker room. I get what he went for, it but it had to have been hard to deal with hearing.
