WWE Diva Natalya recently spoke with Digital Spy about various topics related to wrestling, including NXT and “Total Divas.” Below are some of the highlights from the lengthy interview.

She spoke on her heralded match with Charlotte at “NXT Takeover” for the NXT Women’s Championship:

“The match that Charlotte and I had in May at Takeover is a very historical match. For me it wasn’t about winning a championship. It was about going in there and making everybody feel something. The most powerful matches I’ve had, I’ve not won them.

“It was my little masterpiece. I trained with MMA fighters for that match, I trained seven days a week for that match. I treated it like I was Rocky going into the last match of my career. I never would have got that opportunity without NXT and without Triple H. So for that I’m very grateful, and I see great things happening for Charlotte. I think she’s phenomenal.”

Natalya hit on the “grab the brass ring” comments from Vince McMahon, and discussed how her husband Tyson Kidd tried to rebound from injury to do just that:

“But he wanted to come back to WWE so much because he was so driven, and wrestling and WWE is his passion, so when the company talks about grabbing the brass ring, yes, you know what, there are certain people that have grabbed it, and taken it and run with it, like the Total Divas, who created this very, very successful show.”

She also talked about fellow “Total Divas” cast member Paige’s quick rise to the top in WWE earlier this year by winning the Divas Championship:

“Like I said, WWE is entertainment. That’s what was in the cards in that moment and everybody backstage celebrated change. Now we finally had a new Diva that wanted to wrestle. Somebody that was aggressive and hungry. That’s the thing about the Divas in NXT – they’re really, really hungry and I thrive on that.

“I was like, ‘Bring it on!’. I’m not putting together the show backstage in the WWE. We’re entertainment, we’re here to make people happy. We’re here to invoke emotions and put smiles on people’s faces. If the story calls for Paige to be the Divas Champion then great!”
