Former WWE United States Champion Rusev has been at the head of two major storylines over the past couple of weeks, making him a prominent figure on WWE programming. He and his split with Lana has unfolded unceremoniously, as WWE sees major stock in the “Ravishing Russian.” Simultaneously, the “Bulgarian Brute” chases the WWE Intercontinental Championship, which will be defended inside the Elimination Chamber this upcoming Sunday.
However, there may now be a setback for the foreign star that could leave his immediate status in question.
It was noted during Tuesday night’s tapings for Friday’s edition of “Smackdown,” Rusev would lock up with Ryback in a match previewing the Intercontinental Title bout. During the match, it was said Rusev was selling a leg injury, with the match ending quickly on a DQ finish.
A recent photo of Rusev, however, reveals that injury may not be fake after all.
Wednesday morning, a fan snapped a picture of the Superstar in a wheelchair with a walking boot on and crutches to his side. It appears to have been taken at the airport. The photo can be found below:

With the “Elimination Chamber” pay-per-view quickly approaching this upcoming Sunday, the prospects of a match for Rusev are not good. Many WWE Superstars have noted the chamber match is the most physically demanding out there, so his status is greatly in question for the bout.
The title is up for grabs after Daniel Bryan relinquished the belt following “Payback.” It was determined the vacant title would be defended in the chamber for the first time ever, with Rusev being seen as one of the favorites to take it home.
Editor’s Note
This is a major blow if it turns out he’s gone for a while. However, some time away could see him rest up and come back on a rampage, as he would not be overshadowed by the Lana business.
