Jerry Lawler has been the primary voice of color commentary on WWE programming for the past two decades, but that run almost came to an end two years ago Wednesday.

On Sept. 10, 2012, Lawler had a match on “Monday Night Raw” in Montreal against CM Punk and Dolph Ziggler, teaming with Randy Orton. During the course of the match, Ziggler hit Lawler with multiple elbow drops to the chest, seemingly having little effect at the time.

However, later in the night, the then-62-year-old Lawler collapsed at the announce table, suffering a heart attack. He was rushed through emergency procedures and revived via CPR. He would ultimately return to television a few months later, jokingly placing blame on Ziggler for triggering the cardiac arrest.

On Wednesday, Lawler took to Twitter to make light of the incident.

Since, Lawler has continued to wrestle and do commentary.

Editor’s Note

He may not be great at commentary anymore, but he’s still a legend. Long live The King.
