Former WWE Champion Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirmed this week – in an interview with Collider – that a sequel to his 2013 box office hit “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” will happen.

“What we would love to do with the sequel to G.I. Joe, which will definitely happen.  We set ourselves up really well with this last G.I. Joe, because we really paid attention respected homage to the mythology.  And now that we’ve redesigned that foundation of the mythology, now there are many places to go.  It’s phenomenal the G.I. Joe characters who we can bring to life.  We’re all talking about it now and certainly using the 3D platform in even better ways for the next one so, I’m very excited about that.”

This confirms Variety reports from earlier in April that suggested a sequel to the film was being discussed. “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” has grossed over $110 million during its first month in theaters.

The Rock’s newest movie “Pain & Gain” released this past Thursday, and generated over $7 million in its opening day.
