It’s that special day of the year—WrestleMania. It’s WWE’s gala event, a combination of big wrestling matches, celebrity appearances, and a scale of production rarely seen in the sports entertainment world. As a hardcore fan, it’s tough not to be disappointed with the card going into the show, given how many dream matches we were inches away from seeing, and the stars who aren’t on the show this year. But come on, it’s WrestleMania.
This year’s Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal was once again relegated to the Kickoff show, and the subject of a constantly-shifting set of participants. We didn’t expect much beyond a basically entertaining brawl for this one, with Braun Strowman standing out as the only true favorite. So what happened?
An absolutely surprising final three ended up being Mojo Rawley, Jinder Mahal, and Killian Dane from NXT, with all the competitors having teamed to eliminate Big Show and Braun Strowman early. The payoff for all this was a big celebrity spot where Mojo’s real-life pal, footballer Rob Gronkowski, got involved in the action to ensure a Rawley victory.
