The “Superstar Shakeup” promised for next week suggests some big changes at the top of the card–but it also left fans speculating that some of WWE’s lesser utilized stars might not hold onto their contracts for much longer.

Today, WWE announced the release of Simon Gotch, one half of the Vaudevillains. The official statement reads “WWE has come to terms on a mutually agreed upon release with Simon Gotch as of today, April 5, 2017. WWE wishes Gotch the best in all his future endeavors.”

Gotch last competed alongside tag team partner Aiden English on the WrestleMania kickoff show, where he was the third man eliminated from the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

The Vaudevillains had some excellent moments in NXT–including a Tag Team Championship reign–but never caught on after moving to the main roster. Gotch’s release comes as little surprise.

What remains to be seen is what becomes of Aiden English following this announcement. Aiden had a singles run before teaming with Gotch on NXT, but it would be difficult for him to transition to a solo star on SmackDown following months in a tag team with minimal momentum.

Regardless, we too wish both stars the best going forward.
