Let the speculation cease! Shawn Michaels will be returning to WWE at the Alamodome this Sunday for the Royal Rumble! The Royal Rumble kickoff show, that is.
WWE Network’s blurb on the Rumble pre-show advertises HBK’s presence alongside the previously announced Jerry Lawler, and regular faces Booker T and Renee Young.
Shawn Michaels has competed at both previous Royal Rumbles in the Alamodome. In 2007, he was the 21st entrant in the titular match, finally eliminated by the Undertaker. In 1997, he defeated Sycho Sid for the WWF Championship.
HBK’s recent appearance on Raw fired up the rumor mills in speculation on whether he’d be returning to the ring. We hear again and again to “never say never” when it comes to wrestling, but at this point I’d rank Michaels in the Rumble at around the same likelihood as CM Punk.
He’s explicitly said he wants to stay retired. He even said that Vince has never called him about a comeback. But hey, he did say if he ever came back he’d like to wrestle Samoa Joe, so Rumble entrance confirmed, right?
It’s okay, Shawn. We’re happy you’re back, even if only on a Kickoff show. You do you, man.
Looking forward to Michaels appearance on the Kickoff panel? Still think he should be in “one more match?” Let us know in the comments, or on Facebook!
