We won’t begrudge any city their opportunity to host WrestleMania. After all, it’s a huge boost to the local economy, a big driver for tourism, and a general boon to a city’s prestige. And a few Wrestling Rumors staff members are based in the area, so we’ll let them have their fun.

But with New Orleans having hosted WrestleMania 30 just a few years ago, many were wondering why WWE would return to the Big Easy so soon. It’s not quite the obvious choice that would make New York, Orlando, or LA regular members of the rotation.

However, New Orleans will be hosting their tricentennial celebration next year, and city officials have promised WWE that WrestleMania 34 would be presented as a key factor in the celebrations. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, being part in the city’s 300th anniversary festivities was was what swayed WWE to return.

The decision was finalized just a few weeks ago. Apparently 15 cities were in the running, and Dave Meltzer speculated that list likely included St. Louis and Philadelphia. He also suggested that future regular stops on the WrestleMania rotation would include Dallas, because of last year’s successful show, obvious tourist cities like Orlando, and New York because of its population and often-inflated pricing.
