Roman Reigns was set to defend his United States Championship in a two-on-one handicap match against Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho. Tough odds to overcome, but Roman is a specialist in beating long numbers.
So how did it go? A pre-match brawl opened the action, with Reigns attempting to lock up Jericho in the conveniently-placed shark cage. Silly Roman, you can’t overcome the odds if you’ve already evened them! Luckily, Universal Champ Kevin Owens rescued his pal, and the two put the beatdown on Reigns.
And it was pretty one-sided once the bell rang. Roman had all his usual comeback moments, but each and every one was shut down. Eventually, Owens hit his most dangerous move–the apron powerbomb. JeriKO pulled the big dog back into the ring, and Jericho hit the Codebreaker to finish off Roman and become the new United States Champion.
That clears Roman’s waist to hold the Universal Championship after his Royal Rumble match with Owens, and gives Jericho the chance to drop off the US title with the chosen Raw midcarder somewhere around WrestleMania time. Do we know that’s what will happen? Nah. But it does seem to be the way the story is moving.
