Takeover: San Antonio is here, and we’ve got the latest results. NXT’s been in a slump these past few months, but with every one of the brand’s titles on the line tonight, this special is a terrific opportunity to turn things around.
Shinsuke Nakamura debuted last year and instantly became the hottest thing in NXT. His victory over Sami Zayn was a classic, and he quickly rose through the ranks, defeating Samoa Joe to become NXT Champion. While Joe would briefly reclaim the title, Nakamura proved to be the better man, defeating his opponent in the most definitive way over the course of an international feud.
Who would be Nakamura’s next opponent? There’s only one man glorious enough—Bobby Roode. He captured the hearts of NXT fans with his (admittedly glorious) entrance song and stupendous work as a too-hateable-to-hate villain. With big potential for either man to make a Royal Rumble appearance tomorrow, this was set to be an important match.
It seemed that Shinsuke had it all locked up–until his knee was injured, taking out his most dangerous moves. Against the recommendations of the medical staff, Nakamura insisted on staying in the match. Roode managed to capitalize with a series of submission moves and finishers, and claimed the NXT Championship for himself.
The question we all ask now, of course: will Nakamura appear in the Royal Rumble tomorrow? We can’t wait to find out.
That’s it for Takeover tonight, but don’t miss our full results! Let us know what you thought of the show, either in the comments below or on Facebook!
