We expect Shane McMahon vs. AJ Styles to become official tonight, but not everyone is a fan of the contest. In fact, there are quite a few detractors among wrestling fans, who’d prefer an opponent for Styles who can bring a bit more to the table.
Well, speaking of bringing it to the table, one WWE announcer went on record last night as not being a fan of the match-up. That would be one Corey Graves, on another kayfabe-busting episode of Bring It to the Table alongside Peter Rosenberg and JBL.
When the topic of the proposed match between Shane and AJ came up, JBL was a big fan, saying that the character of Shane is one of the best of all time, and putting him against one of the greatest wrestlers of all time in AJ Styles would be the makings of WrestleMania magic.
Corey, however, disagreed. “The prospect of AJ Styles vs. Shane McMahon does absolutely nothing for me.” With respect to the moments Shane has created in WWE, Corey admits they’re memorable–but bits like his fall from the top of Hell in a Cell are merely moments.
“AJ Styles is an artist. AJ can give you a full, bell-to-bell, cinematic experience. I’m talking in the vein of Hell in a Cell between Triple H and the Undertaker, the end of an era. Or anything Shawn Michaels and Undertaker have done at WrestleMania. Those caliber of matches, that from start to finish are art at its highest form.”
Essentially, Graves wonders if Shane McMahon can keep up with AJ Styles, and that’s a fear many fans share heading into WrestleMania.
