Are you hoping WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair’s record of 16 WWE World Heavyweight Championship reigns will be broken? Don’t expect that to happen anytime soon.
These plans were then scrapped once WWE officials chose to insert Sting into the World Heavyweight Championship picture.
In addition, the report also mentions that future plans for the World Heavyweight Championship include Roman Reigns potentially getting a title run in 2016 while he feuds with many other WWE superstars. Cena will not get another chance to break Flair’s record until some time after that.
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding Cena’s Title vs. Title match against Seth Rollins at “SummerSlam,” as many in the WWE Universe did not feel Cena was worthy of breaking Flair’s record. This also became the sole reason that “SummerSlam” host Jon Stewart cost Cena his match, stating on the Aug. 24 edition of “Monday Night Raw” that he “couldn’t allow Cena to win.”
Cena is currently slated to receive his rematch for the United States Championship at WWE “Night of Champions” live from Houston, Texas on Sept. 20.
Editor’s Note:
Regardless of how you feel about Cena, there is no doubt he will go down as one of the top WWE superstars of all time. Yes, sometimes his “Never Give Up” act gets stale, but he goes out to that ring every night for our entertainment, and you can’t deny his tenacity. I believe that he will break Flair’s title record at some point, which shouldn’t really diminish the record, only strengthen it.
