The Wrestling Observer is reporting that the WWE has signed yet another independent talent in Cory “Wild” Weston. Weston was reportedly scouted by Gerald Brisco, and was a student of Dory Funk, Jr’s wrestling school. Weston is only one of many Indy talents that the WWE has been signing as of late. It is expected that all of the new signees will report to the WWE’s new Performance Center once it is operational in July.
Weston has been wrestling in Dory Funk’s promotion, !BANG!, and was recently the Funking Conservatory World Heavyweight Champion. Reporting to the WWE’s Performance Center, Weston and the rest of the new signees will train and be developed by the company. Each one will more than likely then be seen on NXT programming, where they will develop gimmicks, vocal skills, and get experience competing in the WWE’s “machine,” which is said to be a much different experience than what talent’s are accustomed to wrestling in the Indy circuit. With such an influx of new talent being signed in the last few months, and more rumored to be on the way, many behind the scenes in the WWE are said to be excited about the next few years of superstar development.
