Professional Wrestling’s infamous “annual rumor” has hit the internet again, as many expected it to. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has reported that Sting is talking to WWE.

Reports claim, just as they have for the last few years, that WWE officials have reached out to Sting about doing something with World Wrestling Entertainment before the “Icon” renews his contract with TNA Wrestling. Sting, real name Steve Borden, has been agreeing to one-year deals with TNA for the last four years, and just before he has re-signed with TNA each year, WWE officials reportedly reach out to the former NWA, WCW, and TNA champion.

WrestlingRumors.net will continue to go on record saying that we would have to “see it to believe it” when it comes to Sting jumping ship and becoming part of World Wrestling Entertainment. Sting has reportedly turned down offers from the company for years, beginning when WWE purchased World Championship Wrestling in 2001.

Sting was offered a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment to appear at WrestleMania XXVII in 2011 and take on the Undertaker’s legendary undefeated streak. Sting turned down the offer, and told the U.K.’s Daily Star why, saying,

“There are so many variables. Let’s just say that I turned it down for the same reasons I always have. Something in me never trusted what would happen up there, based entirely on the track record with other WCW guys and everything that went on after Vince bought WCW.”

Since 2011, Sting has been featured in various WWE home videos and televised video packages, but he has never appeared on WWE TV live. He has also been part of a number of WWE online polls, even winning “Greatest United States Champion,” among others.

As we’ve all heard, you should never say never in the wrestling business, and Sting could very well strike a deal with WWE someday (hopefully to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame), but it’s something that will have to be seen to be believed.

Our own Frank Manzo discussed this annual rumor back in July in a segment called, “Rumor Control.” You can watch this segment below.
