F4Wonline.com is reporting that Vince McMahon has a new idea for dealing with the ongoing struggle for ratings when WWE programming is put up against other sporting events such as the NBA Playoffs. His plan reportedly is to try and get the 2014 NBA schedule as soon as possible, so that the WWE can book Monday Night Raws opposite of NBA/Monday Night Football games in cities where the fans are “hot” consistently.
In Vince’s eyes, if wrestling fans are torn between which program to watch, and they tune into Monday Night Raw and see a full arena going crazy and being super “hot,” they will choose to stay tuned into Raw. He feels the fan would not rechange the channel because they would be instantly be engaged to the product and would ultimately be a part of the whichever “rowdy” crowd is watching and interacting with the superstars live. Cities that WWE would definitely want to book in this thought process would be New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, and a few others as they are always great towns for “hot” crowds.
Vince tried to face off against the NBA Eastern Conference Playoffs Monday and lost. He thought that the presence of himself, Stephanie, and Triple H would give them a slight advantage in creating buzz for fans to tune in, but the only outcome was the worst rating that RAW has seen all year. It is said that the Curtis Axel/Triple H programmed was planned for Summerslam, but was probably rushed to have Triple H on TV during this time of “battle” between the NBA. Axel and Triple H are now expected to face off at WWE Payback on June 16th.
