Update Regarding the Lawsuit Between CM Punk and WWE Doctor Chris Amann

New reports have provided an update regarding the lawsuit between CM Punk and WWE doctor Chris Amann, who according to Punk, refused to diagnose a staph infection Punk had, which could have killed him. As previously reported, the lawsuit was filed by Amann against Punk and former WWE superstar Colt Cabana for libelist accusations he feels were made during Cabana’s “Art of Wrestling” podcast featuring Punk that was published on Thanksgiving day, 2014.

The lawsuit asks for $1 million in libelist damages. The Washington Post claims that a Cook County Circuit Court judge denied motions from Punk, real name Phil Brooks, and Cabana to dismiss the case. The case is set to move forward, and the court has given Punk and Cabana until Aug. 24 to file a response to Amann’s complaint.

Amaan claims that the comments made by Punk and Cabana regarding his failure to protect and diagnose superstars who have suffered concussions, as well as his inability to properly diagnose Punk’s staph infection, were false and defamatory. Millions of people have listened to the “Punk Explains Why He Left WWE” edition of Cabana’s “Art of Wrestling” podcast, which is part of Amann’s issue.

Punk openly stated that Amann misdiagnosed a MRSA staph infection as a fatty deposit, and noted that he had to go to another doctor during his “sabbatical” who properly diagnosed it. That physician told Punk that he should be dead from competing with such a staph infection for so long. WWE has supported Amann throughout this process, stating that they believe Punk’s statements to be false.
