According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Triple H’s NXT Kliq may be causing jealousy and heat backstage amongst different superstars on the NXT roster. As previously reported, much like the incredibly controversial “Kliq” that Triple H was a part of in the mid-’90s, there is a group of superstars in NXT that “The Game” is trying to mentor, teach, and build the brand around.
NXT Champion Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Hideo Itami, Finn Bálor, and Adrian Neville are said to be the new NXT Kliq under Triple H’s motherly wings behind-the-scenes. This has reportedly led to some jealousy over whether or not you’re, “one of Triple H’s boys,” because when you are, the impression is that you’re allowed to do whatever you want and get away with it.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter recalled a story regarding Owens and former NXT head trainer, coach, and agent Bill DeMott as an example. Apparently DeMott was the agent assigned to help produce Owens’ debut bout on NXT Takeover: R Evolution in December, 2014. After hearing the match that DeMott proposed for Owens, which included no outside dives and basically just power moves due to Owens’ size, KO apparently went to Triple H himself and complained that DeMott wasn’t going to allow him to wrestle in the style and manner that he is accustomed to.
Being a bigger competitor, DeMott didn’t want Owens flipping over the top rope or attempting a senton (which is ironic since DeMott’s finish every night was a moonsault for years as a 300+ pounder). Owens complained a lot, which led to Triple H reportedly telling DeMott that Owens could do whatever he wanted to. This led to friction backstage, as the feeling is that if you’re one of Triple H’s Kliq, you can do what you want to get over. If you’re not, you’re going to be micromanaged and won’t be able to work the same “indy” style that consists of dives, high-risk maneuvers, and so-on.

Although the days and years change, the song remains the same.
