The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims that TNA may be done with PPV business altogether. According to the report, the factor that leads everyone to believe the company might do away with Pay-Per-View events is that John Gaburick announced that TNA “Lockdown” would be airing on television this year, not PPV.
“Lockdown” will be taped on Jan. 9 at the Manhattan Center in New York City, and will feature ever bout inside of a steel cage. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter writes,
“Lockdown and Bound for Glory were generally TNA’s two biggest events of the year. In advertising for the 1/9 taping, it’s announced it will be every match in the cage using the slogan the “six sides of steel.”
There was talk that as far as product revamping they would be returning to the four sided ring, but that advertising would indicate a six-sided ring at the very least on 1/9. And it would be stupid to change to a four-sided ring for a few weeks and then go right back.
The 1/7 main event is Bobby Roode vs. Bobby Lashley for the TNA title. The 1/8 show has Matt & Jeff Hardy vs. Eddie Edwards & Davey Richards, which indicates Edwards & Richards are at least committed as their original deals were up, which is why they lost the titles.”
Editor’s Note:
I can’t imagine that the company would last much longer, or could believe that they’re serious competition to Vince McMahon’s WWE if they aren’t doing monthly PPVs. Their product is now on an obscure television network that I don’t even get, and it seems as if their PPVs, even now on free TV, may be seen by less people than before.
