New reports have provided details and more on if Stephanie McMahon vs. Ronda Rousey will take place at WrestleMania 32 or not. As previously reported, WWE would love to have this match on the WrestleMania 32 card, as the company will be trying to sell out AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which could set a new “largest attendance” record in America.

The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided details as to when WWE will possibly get this match confirmed, if they even can. Multiple factors must line-up perfectly for the company to pull off signing Rousey to a one-night-only performance contract.

As previously noted, WWE got Rousey to initiate a program with McMahon during an in-ring segment at WrestleMania 31, which saw Rousey block an incoming slap from McMahon, and then tease a possible armbar on the Authority member.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter writes,

“Rousey vs. Stephanie was first proposed to Rousey at SummerSlam in August and this was the angle to build to it, which is why they didn’t have Rousey finish Stephanie with the armbar in the WrestleMania angle, as the armbar, the money spot, is being saved. Whether that match actually happens is another question.

Rousey agreed to the deal to do this year’s Mania several months ago, but the only thing under contract was for a one-shot deal, but it was certainly done with the idea of a match in mind for the 2016 Mania. But there is nothing contracted.

It’s one thing for UFC to allow her to do the angle. It’s another question if they want her on a PPV event, and selling for Stephanie since she’s never been at a serious disadvantage for more than a few seconds in a any of her fights. Doing a match is far more difficult. Rousey herself was thrilled to do the angle, comparing it to being called to pinch hit in the World Series and hitting a home run.

Rousey is repped by William Morris Endeavor, so making that deal is only going to happen unless big money is guaranteed or she badly wants to do it for fun (or, like with Dwayne Johnson, a little bit of both), and in her case, Dana White also has to sign off on it.

There are arguments for it, in the sense it’ll expand her fan base and exposure, but there is a real question as to whether a reigning UFC champion should be advertised for a key event on a WWE’s biggest show of the year. A lot depends on her schedule, as between fighting and movies, the timing may not work out, and fighting is going to take precedence.

I don’t see, if she’s scheduled for a fight anywhere between probably March and June of next year, for her to run around doing Raw building a match and Mania and it’s very likely a fight for her will fall into that cycle. And who knows what movie roles may come her way, which could also get in the way of it.

So it’s doubtful that any deal could even be put together until late in the year or even early 2016 before they have a read on what her schedule would be like during those months. White did not allow Brock Lesnar to face Undertaker in 2011 in a somewhat similar situation, and Lesnar was not champion when White nixed that match.

There are a lot of connections with Johnson and Rousey, besides the movie and the same agent, Brad Slater. Rousey has just signed with Dany Garcia, Johnson’s ex-wife and business partner in Seven Bucks Productions, to be her new business manager.”

A lot of hurdles stand in the way of this match, but WWE spared no expense in setting up a possible bout at WrestleMania 32. The question is, “will they deliver?”

Editor’s Note:

To me, you’d have to book it as Rousey DESTROYING Stephanie with the armbar pretty much immediately. She can take a few slaps from McMahon, but then she should drop her. I mean, not many last more than 30 seconds in the Octagon with the girl, how is she expected to work 10 minutes with McMahon and it be believable?
