3MB pays homage to a “fabulous” tag team this Friday on Smackdown. Heath Slater, Drew McIntyre, and Jinder Mahal will come out to the ring for their match against the Prime Time Players on Friday night dressed up as the Fabulous Freebirds and going by the name, “The Fabulous 3-Birds.”
Smackdown was taped on Tuesday night in the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Ga., and in keeping with the “southern” feel of their location, the stable of 3MB adorn themselves as one of the most notorious southern stables of all time. The Fabulous Freebirds were made famous competing in the Dallas-based wrestling promotion World Class Championship Wrestling.
The group consisted of Michael “P.S.” Hayes, Terry “Bam Bam” Gordy, and Buddy “Jack” Roberts, who were mainly heel throughout their most infamous feuds and programs. The Freebirds were instrumental in creating “the Freebird rule,” when it came to tag team wrestling, where any stable that holds the tag team championship can put any competitor in the ring to defend them. Their most famous feud was with the Von Erichs in WCCW.
Slater is said to be very “spot on” with his impression of Hayes during the “Fabulous 3-Birds” match, even pulling off the infamous Michael “P.S.” Hayes strut. This should make for interesting television Friday night, November 22nd.
