WWE is reporting that Sami Zayn is set to undergo a MRI on his shoulder on May 5. As noted earlier, Zayn made his second appearance on “Monday Night Raw” on May 4, answering John Cena’s open challenge for a United States Championship match in a losing effort.

Zayn appeared to tweak his shoulder during his entrance for the bout, which was in grand fashion. After Cena had opened the challenge up for any competitor in the back, WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart came down to the ring to introduce the hometown hero. However, he would be cut off by Heath Slater, who wanted to try yet again to be the one that bested Cena for the US strap.

However, Slater’s plans would not come to be, as Hart took out the One-Man-Band with a blow to the head with a microphone. He then introduced Zayn, which garnered one of the biggest pops from a WWE crowd in some time.

Zayn would come down the ramp so fired up, that when he went to pump up the crowd as he normally does on the ring steps, it looked as if he suffered some discomfort in his shoulder. However, he acted like nothing was wrong, then began the match.

After a few minutes of competition, Zayn stayed down on the mat following a slam from Cena where he landed more on his left shoulder, the one that was aggravating him. A WWE medic rushed in to check on the No. 1 Contender for the NXT Championship, and he claimed he was fine, although it would be obvious that something was bothering him for the remainder of the match.

Following his loss, Cena picked up Zayn and applauded him for being who he is, and cleared the ring to let him revel in the applause of his hometown. However, Zayn was quite disturbed by the feeling in his shoulder, and looked to be upset.

WWE has provided the following comment on the matter,

“NXT Superstar Sami Zayn suffered a shoulder injury during his U.S. Championship Match against John Cena on Raw.

Zayn, who answered The Champ’s open-challenge defense of his title, was tended to by WWE officials during the match after appearing to aggravate his shoulder, yet he continued on and finished the contest despite the injury. WWE.com can confirm that Zayn will be undergoing an MRI on his upper body tomorrow to determine the nature and extent of his injury.”

As of right now, Zayn is still slated to face NXT Champion Kevin Owens in a championship match on May 20 on NXT TakeOver, and this injury could be merely an angle for that match. However, it did look like Zayn injured himself during his entrance.

WrestlingRumors.net will keep you posted as more details become available.

Editor’s Note:

I REALLY hope this isn’t something serious. Zayn proved tonight that the main roster would DEFINITELY benefit from his addition. Olé, sir! We hope you get well soon.
