#7: “Dark Side” / “Rollin’ ” – The Undertaker

Let’s face it…every Undertaker theme. aside from “You’re Gonna Pay,”  will make it on all three of these Top 10 lists.

During this era, the “Dead Man” became dark and edgy, even turning heel and becoming downright demonic. “Dark Side” began as a new “attitudinal” theme for ‘Taker, and it didn’t originally have the scripture being read in tongues sprinkled throughout it. The original version can be found on WWF The Music: Vol. 3, but this version of “Dark Side,” found on Vol. 4, is what garnered the most heated reactions from the WWE Universe. Fans would still stand to their feet for “The Phenom,” but there were more boo’s than cheers for the “Dead Man.” That is, until he left to heal injuries…only to return with a new gimmick.

Biker ‘Taker, or American Badass ‘Taker, was a gimmick that wasn’t even really a gimmick. It was the closest thing to Mark Calaway truely just being Mark Calaway than we’d ever seen before, and likely ever see again.

At first, Calaway rode a motorcycle out to the ring to the Kid Rock tune, “American Badass.” Then, he switched his theme to one that EVERYONE watching during the Ruthless Aggression would instantly sing along with and mark out for, “Rollin’,” by Limp Bizkit. No matter the gimmick, heel or face, The Undertaker always had a pop-able entrance and theme song. Always.
