Rey Mysterio is reportedly done with WWE and is heading to AAA in April. Recent comments from AAA liaison Hugo Savinovich, as well as the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, all point to Mysterio heading south once his contract with WWE becomes null and void.

Savinovich recently disclosed this information regarding Mysterio’s career plans to KGB-Wrestling.com. His comments were that Mysterio is not planning on returning to WWE even though he is currently under contract, and will return to AAA when his deal is up in April, 2015.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this could lead to some serious issues between parties. He writes,

“This is a very touchy subject for obvious reasons. Mysterio is under contract to WWE through April. They want him back. He obviously doesn’t want to go back, but if he doesn’t go back, they can extend his contract, like they did, because they also don’t want him walking right into AAA or Lucha Underground.

They weren’t happy he was at the Lucha Underground tapings and photos came out, but he also is allowed to visit friends and go to shows as long as he doesn’t appear on camera. It’s a really weird deal because a video of him did play at TripleMania, which took a lot of balls by AAA. AAA also used Del Rio before he had gotten a release from WWE (which he hasn’t gotten yet).

I’ve never seen a promotion except WCW do this, and WCW ended up in a lot of trouble when they did. So it will be interesting how this plays out. But it was really telling to me that Mysterio did not appear, even doing just a guest appearance, for the Mexico shows, particularly since Flair ended up being pulled off those shows.

Mysterio’s WWE contract was renewed in June by the company without his consent, per a clause within the document allowing them to do so. He is the first superstar known to have this clause used against them by World Wrestling Entertainment in order to keep a talent on roster that no longer wants to be there. Mysterio had reportedly come to terms with Triple H in regards to his would-be departure from the company in the Summer, but Vince McMahon wanted to keep the former World Heavyweight Champion on payroll.

McMahon claims Mysterio owes the company time for how many dates he’s had to sit on the sidelines injured. However, Mysterio has yet to re-enter a WWE and compete since his contract was renewed. As seen in the report above, WWE could extend his contract again if he does not return to work prior to his current deal running out in April.

Editor’s Note:
Uhhh…this could get messy.
