A new report from F4Wonline.com claims that Kurt Angle is still trying to strike a deal with WWE. As previously reported, Angle will be finished with his current TNA contract in September, and has expressed on many occasions that he wants to finish out his career back in WWE.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims that Angle is trying to get WWE executives to take him back on a contract that looks similar to the deal Shawn Michaels had near the end of his in-ring career. Michaels worked all the “big” shows, such as PPVs, but rarely worked house shows and was on limited TV.
Meltzer goes on to report that WWE hasn’t shown much interest in acquiring the former Olympic gold medalist and WWE Champion. As previously noted, Vince McMahon has gone on record saying that he he weary of having Angle under contract with him, especially given his history of demons.
Angle has struggled with alcohol and drug addiction for years, so much so that it has led to multiple arrests and stints in rehab. McMahon’s anxieties about re-signing Angle exist due to his past struggles, where McMahon is terrified about having an Olympic gold medalist do something tragic to himself or someone else while under contract and representing the WWE banner.
Angle has publicly seemed transparent about his recent success with sobriety, and claims that the latest story revolving him and WWE, which was about Angle being “passed out” on a plane was ridiculous. He claims he was merely asleep and has been sober since he left rehab.
Angle has been telling fans that he’ll be back with WWE in September, but it looks like the move is not a decision of his to make. WWE would have to truly have to change their minds to sign TNA Hall of Famer Kurt Angle.
Editor’s Note:
Seriously. Have Angle give Rusev his first true defeat, by submission, with the REAL ankle lock.
