The latest edition of “Wrestling Observer Radio” with Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer has provided some backstage news on Rusev’s lawyer seen on “RAW” and Lana’s absence from the program. As previously reported, Lana is expected to be gone from WWE programming for at least three weeks in order to film her part for the upcoming WWE Studios’ film, “Interrogation.”
Due to her obvious absence from the March 16 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” WWE hired a local actor to portray Rusev’s attorney during the contract signing segment between the United States Champion and John Cena. However, WWE hired a poor choice, as the actor provided a very poor Russian accent during the segment, and wound up sounding more like someone from Chicago or Fargo, North Dakota than Russia.
This was very evident to everyone watching the segment, especially Vince McMahon, who promptly instructed the commentary team of JBL, Booker T, and Michael Cole to bury the guy on-air. McMahon wasn’t sold on the actor before the segment, and when it was obvious that he was a bad choice during the live broadcast, McMahon had Booker T and JBL verbally bully (Be a Star, right?) the actor into oblivion.
As far as Lana being away to film “Interrogation,” Meltzer claims that her WrestleMania 31 status is unknown. Rusev was filmed telling Lana off in Bulgarian during the March 9 edition of “RAW,” and she hasn’t been on WWE TV since. However, Rusev will not comment on her whereabouts.
The company is playing her absence up as Rusev’s request, however she is really off filming the movie. While she’s expected to be away for three-to-four weeks, WWE could always make arrangements to bring her back for WrestleMania for a night. Whether or not that is the plan has yet to be seen.
Editor’s Note:
That guy…was terrible. Booker T DESTROYED him on commentary, more so than JBL even, who ALWAYS gets lines STRAIGHT from Vince. Whoever hired him is lucky if they still have a job.
