Mr. T is expected for the WWE Hall of Fame’s class of 2014. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the word within World Wrestling Entertainment is that Mr. T will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year along side of the Ultimate Warrior, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, and Lita.
Mr. T was a major factor in the success of the inaugural WrestleMania. Teaming with Hulk Hogan, Mr. T provided the star power necessary for the event drawing a large audience. While Hogan was the most popular figure in professional wrestling, Mr. T was a huge movie and television star at the time. Many believe that without him participating in the initial WrestleMania event that the company may no longer be around today. Mr. T has yet to be announced as a confirmed inductee, but word backstage is that the announcement will be coming soon.
Cyndi Lauper has also been discussed for the “Celebrity Wing” of the WWE Hall of Fame. With Hogan, Mr. T, and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper expected to be involved with the 2014 WWE Hall of Fame and WrestleMania XXX events, Lauper seems to be another name that is highly possible for induction this year.
Mr. T and Lauper were the two mainstream superstars that helped the WWE achieve new levels of exposure and popularity in the mid-’80s. Inducting both celebrities into the Hall in the same year would seem like overkill to some, but with this year’s “Showcase of the Immortals” being the thirtieth anniversary of the original WrestleMania, inducting Lauper and Mr. T could be easily explained and understood. Again, without them participating in ‘Mania 1, there seriously may not be a WWE today.
