Justin Roberts reportedly applied to trademark his name a month prior to his departure from WWE. As previously reported, Roberts’ contract was not renewed by the company, and WWE announced that he would no longer be working for the promotion on Oct. 13.

PWInsider.com is reported that Roberts applied to trademark his professional moniker almost a month before his contract expired with WWE. While the announcement of Roberts’ farewell was a shock to just about everyone, his attempt at trademarking “Justin Roberts” may indicate that the former ring announcer knew that his 12 year tenure in World Wrestling Entertainment was coming to an end prior to being informed of the decision on Oct. 13.

WWE claims not re-signing Roberts was strictly a budgetary reason, while many in the locker room view this as a mistake. Roberts apparently did not get along with Michael Cole, as multiple fan reports claimed that Roberts could be seen making obscene gestures at Cole at ringside during his last night on the job, the Oct. 13 edition of “Monday Night Raw.” Roberts has since posted a “farewell letter” of sorts through Social Media, thanking the company, his peers, and his fans. What’s next on Roberts horizon is yet to be seen.

Editor’s Note:
Hmm…I wonder if he did know his time was up? He’s good at what he does. He should find some work very quickly. Jeff Jarrett…I’m looking at you.
