WWE Champion John Cena fought the #1 Contender Ryback in a Last Man Standing match during Sunday night’s Extreme Rules PPV event. The finish of the match saw Ryback spear Cena through a wall of LED lights on the entrance stage, causing sparks to fly and the match to stop. Referees and medics were shown about 45 seconds later tending to the two competitors who were incapacitated, with Cena even being put in a neck brace and placed onto a stretcher. Many people were wondering if this angle was a work or if Cena was actually injured during the spot.

The answer came during the Extreme Rules post-show. Footage was shown of Cena getting off of his stretcher before being placed in an ambulance. He then proceeded to tear off his neck brace and refuse medical attention. He walked away from the incident virtually unscathed. The spot between Ryback and Cena was planned as a way to not have Ryback go over, but not make him look weak either. Cena is not expected to be written off of TV anytime soon with the amount of star power dwindling in the WWE currently. He is expected to continue working a full schedule and face Ryback again at Payback, the WWE’s new June PPV airing June 16th.
