CM Punk has his first live MMA scrimmage bout on March 2. His coach, Duke Roufus, claims that Punk has come a long way during his training, has great potential, and exudes the will to be great.
Punk famously left WWE and the world of Professional Wrestling in 2014. He then signed with Dana White’s UFC Mixed Martial Arts promotion in December of the same year, and began training for his upcoming debut bout. While he will not officially fight for the company until the Fall of 2015 likely, he is going through scrimmages and sparring fights up until the first official bell to prepare himself for battle.
According to Roufus, Punk did well in his first scrimmage against 4-0 professional Welterweight fighter Craig Eckelberg. He claims he has some things to tighten up and work on, but that you can teach skill, but can’t teach will, which Punk has enormous amounts of. Below are two photos from Roufus’ Instagram account featuring Punk.
Roufus’ Roufusport brand sponsors UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis, as well as his brother UFC fighter Sergio Pettis. Former undefeated Bellator Champion Ben Askren and Erik Koch are also alum to the brand.
Editor’s Note:
Will be interesting to see how he does in his first true televised bout. We’ll see how scripted the finish is, I guess.
