New reports from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter have provided interesting backstage news on Daniel Bryan’s departure from the Wyatt Family. As seen on the Jan. 13 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” Bryan attacked Bray Wyatt before shedding his “Wyatt Family attire” and returning to a babyface role for the company. The decision to turn Bryan back into a fan favorite so quickly was not the original plan, but was a unanimous decision made by WWE officials and creative team members alike.
As the original program was to see Bryan involved with the Wyatts for weeks, possibly leading to a match with Wyatt himself at “Elimination Chamber” or WrestleMania XXX, the WWE Universe was said to have been a definitive factor in WWE turning Bryan face again earlier than expected. As we previously reported, the Michigan State fans using Bryan’s “YES!” chants following their BCS Rose Bowl victory had a lot to do with this decision, as it showed the company that Bryan is extremely over with the fans and his catchphrase is crossing over into other markets.
A match between Wyatt and Bryan is now likely to be held at the twenty-seventh annual “Royal Rumble” Pay-Per-View event on Jan. 26, if Bryan is healthy enough to compete by then. During the segment where Bryan attacked Wyatt and turned face once again, the “goat faced” superstar suffered a serious concussion and barely remembers anything from Monday night.
WWE.com has yet to address Bryan’s injury, and not many people know just how serious the concussion is just yet. However, Bryan was not involved or seen during Tuesday night’s “Smackdown” tapings, and isn’t expected to appear during any WWE Live Events being held Jan. 17-19.
