In a press conference held on Aug. 14, former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio joined the president of Mexico wrestling promotion AAA, Joaquin Roldan, to discuss his return to the company. As previously reported, Del Rio was fired from World Wrestling Entertainment on Aug. 7 following an altercation with a fellow employee. During this press conference, Del Rio announced that he was returning to AAA as “The Boss,” or “El Patrón.”

Del Rio, who’s real name is Alberto Rodríguez, said that he will no longer be using “Alberto Del Rio” since WWE owns that name. He will now be known as El Patrón. He also claimed that he could not go into details about his release from WWE due to legal constraints, but that he would begin talking about it in a few weeks when all of that is taken care of.

El Patrón did say that there is a 90-day “No Compete” clause at play, which will hinder him from being a full time in-ring competitor for AAA under that runs out, but his lawyers are working on figuring something out so that he can compete at AAA’s “TripleMania” event in Mexico on Sunday, Aug. 17.

Rodríguez has challenged El Texano Jr. for the AAA Mega Heavyweight Title, so if his lawyers can make it happen, El Patrón will likely become a champion during his first night back with AAA.

Editor’s Note:
New champion on Sunday. Count on it.
