Former UFC competitor Chael Sonnen has always been linked to WWE, even before he retired from MMA due to multiple failed drug tests. The always outspoken Sonnen has never been shy about talking WWE, once revealing Stephanie McMahon’s phone number on TSN. He’s even expressed interest in buying WWE, and called out good friend CM Punk and Vince McMahon in the past.

Chael Sonnen was a recent guest on WWE Superstar Chris Jericho’s “Talk is Jericho” podcast. During his time on the show, Sonnen revealed that he was contacted by a WWE executive upon his suspension from MMA. Sonnen noted that the executive informed him that WWE was not interested in bringing him aboard.

Continuing, Sonnen would state that the executive said if Sonnen were 24, WWE would have given him a big money contract. According to Sonnen, the executive then wrapped up the call by brining up TNA, saying that company may be interested in him. In closing, the executive then said if that were the case, WWE would then make a play for him as well.

Editor’s Note

Who knows if Chael Sonnen is telling the truth, but I don’t know why WWE would want to sign him, even if TNA did have interest in him. With his failed drug tests and subsequent suspension, it would certainly be a risky and controversial move. It’s also not 2010.
