It was revealed tonight that the announcement was that Reigns was challenging the winner of the upcoming Universal Championship match between Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar at “Great Balls of Fire.” He wants to face the winner at “SummerSlam.”
It had been previously rumored that “The Guy” would be challenging either The Undertaker or John Cena, but neither of those rumors came to pass.
Reigns mentioned in his promo to open the show that he could not be beaten in a one-on-one match, and reminded everyone that he retired The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33. However, Joe would take exception to this statement and attack “The Big Dog,” setting up a match between the two later in the night.
Editor’s Note:
While I was hoping that he would face John Cena, this is not a surprising outcome for the announcement. The only thing that will throw a wrinkle into this is if Reigns loses to Braun Strowman in his Ambulance Match at “Great Balls of Fire.” Either way, it should be a fun ride to the “Hottest Party of the Summer!”
