Earlier this evening at the “Slammiversary” pay-per-view, Bobby Lashley defeated Drew Galloway in the main event, to become the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion. This victory marks the beginning of what will be Lashley’s third reign as champion.
The only way to have earned a victory in this match was either by knockout or submission. The finish came after Galloway attempted to flip over the top rope and put Lashley through a table, but Lashley moved out of the way. A short time later, Lashley would put Galloway in a side choke hold, causing him to pass out and therefore, win the title.
Lashley’s last reign as champion began when he defeated Bobby Roode on the January 7, 2015 episode of “IMPACT.” He would eventually lose the title to Kurt Angle on the March 20, 2015 episode of “IMPACT.”
Prior to “Slammiversary,” Galloway had held the TNA World Heavyweight Championship since the March 15, 2016 episode of “IMPACT.” He would cash in his “Feast or Fired” briefcase for a title shot against then-champion Matt Hardy, which he would be victorious in. Galloway was the first Scottish-born World Heavyweight Champion in TNA history.
