The era of the Maharajah is about to begin.

Tonight at “Backlash,” Jinder Mahal defeated Randy Orton in the main event to capture the WWE Championship. This will be Mahal’s first run with the title.

The finish came when the Singh brothers interfered, causing Orton to throw them into announce tables, and drop them with his rope-DDT move into the ring. However, this would allow Mahal to sneak up from behind, plant Orton and pin him to capture his first championship.

The Maharajah earned the opportunity to compete in this match by winning a six-pack challenge match a few weeks ago on “Smackdown Live.”

Editor’s Note:

I had tweeted out earlier in the night to not be surprised if he won this thing, and while I’m not completely in disbelief, I’m still a bit shocked. However, I think that this could be a very good thing, as Jinder Mahal has been a professional wrestler for a long time, and has done good work with the company for many years. Congratulations on the opportunity to be the man in WWE!
