I guess if you want something done right, you need to “do it yourself.”

Tonight at “NXT Takeover: Chicago,” #DIY challenged the Authors of Pain in a ladder match for the NXT Tag Team Championships. After a hard fought contest, with many great spots, AOP was able to defeat Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano to retain their titles.

However, the action was not over.

As Gargano and Ciampa were standing at the top of the ramp, and the show was about to go off the air, Ciampa turned heel and threw Gargano into the video board. After a vicious assault, he would then drive Gargano through a series of tables.

Gargano was helped to the back by a medical team, with Ciampa sitting on the announce table to close the show.

It had been previously reported that Ciampa had suffered an injury at a live event a few days ago, but his ankle seemed to be just fine.

Tommaso Ciampa stuns Chicago with heartless betrayal of Johnny Gargano: NXT TakeOver: Chicago

Editor’s Note:

While this wasn’t completely unexpected, it still came as a bit of shock. I figured that #DIY was going to head to the main roster, most likely “Smackdown Live,” and become a dominant force in the tag team division before going their separate ways. My guess is that we will see this feud culminate at “NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III.”
