“The One Man Band,” long with his tag team partner Rhyno, defeated The Usos in the finals of the tournament to crown the inaugural “Smackdown Live” tag team champions. The finish came when Rhyno hit the Gore on Jimmy Uso when the referee was distracted, which allowed Slater to get the pin and pick up the victory for his team.
Ever since the WWE Draft back in July of this year, Slater has been a free agent after not being drafted by either “Monday Night Raw” or “Smackdown Live.” Since then, he has had several opportunities to earn contracts on both shows, by competing in matches that he had, unfortunately, come up short in.
As a result of winning this tournament, not only is Slater now one-half of the first tag team champions in “Smackdown Live” history, but he also now has a full-time contract to the brand.
Editor’s Note:
YEAH, BAY-BAY! Heath Slater has been one of most entertaining superstars in the company since playing the free agent role. The vignettes with his family, as well as his entertaining segments each week have been gold, and he is definitely deserving of this opportunity. Congratulations to Heath Slater and his family! That wait for that double-wide is going have been well worth it!
