According to Dave Meltzer, he has sparred several times in the gym, and the reports are that he has not done well. This might be due to the back injuries that he sustained due to professional wrestling, but that cannot be confirmed. All we know is that training has been delayed due to these injuries.
Punk was originally scheduled to debut in the summer of 2015, but obviously that did not happen. The general belief is that his first opponent, Mikey Gall, will run right through him.
UFC has not been talking about his much recently, even though the main reason that he was brought into the company was because of the media attention that he would receive.
One of Punk’s main objectives for entering UFC was to prove to everyone that he could be successful in the MMA world. However, he may now be facing a situation where he cannot pull that off.
Editor’s Note:
It is still my feeling that Punk will get pummeled in his first match, and I am completely OK with that. I used to be a huge fan of Phil Brooks, but the second that he walked out on the company and started bashing them made me completely turn my back on him as a fan. He seems so ungrateful to the company that made him who he is today. Without WWE, there would be no CM Punk, and no MMA contract. We’ll see what happens, but I hope that he gets destroyed in his MMA debut.
