However, Y2J sent out a cryptic tweet this morning, indicating that his current run with the company may be over:
Thanks @wwe….its been real. See you next time.
— Chris Jericho (@IAmJericho) May 2, 2016
Jericho’s current run with the company begin on the January 4 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” when he returned in a segment with The New Day, announcing that he would be an entrant into the 2016 “Royal Rumble.”
During his current run with the company, his most prominent storyline has been with AJ Styles. The two had a series of terrific matches in the months of January and February, all surrounding “The Phenomenal One’s” debut with the company at the “Royal Rumble.” They even formed a tag team known as “Y2AJ” for a brief period at the end of February.
However, that didn’t last for long, as Jericho turned on Styles on the March 7 edition of “Raw.” This led to a match between the two at WrestleMania, in which Jericho ended up being victorious.
Y2J has most recently been involved in a program with Dean Ambrose, which led to a match between the two last night at “Payback.” In the match, Ambrose picked up the victory in a great contest between two very talented performers.
Jericho said in a recent interview that no one would be able to predict when his latest run would be over. If the upcoming tweet is in fact true, then it would appear that the time is now.
Editor’s Note:
It now makes sense why Jericho lost to Ambrose last night. Having “The Lunatic Fringe” go over Y2J is a perfect way to end his current run, and allow him to go on to the other projects that he is involved with. I look forward to seeing “The Ayatollah of Rock and Roll-ah” back in WWE the next time that he returns!
