Shane Douglas recently talked a lot about the WWE. It is now no secret that he believes that the WWE does a bad job regarding promos. But there’s more to the criticism than just that.
Shane Douglas is actually in the planning stages of forming his own wrestling company which has yet to be named. He also believes that it will be better than what he believes to be WWE’s “garbage.” Quotes courtesy of WrestlingInc.
Part of why he is starting the company is actually his belief that WWE’s dominance has destroyed the territories of the past, making it harder for wrestlers to break into the business. “Where do you learn your craft? What comes first, the chicken or the egg? How do you get a job with the main company if you can’t get experience, [and] how do your get experience if you can’t get a job with the main company? And there’s no small companies to train them. Vince is now reaping the reward of what he sowed. He’s got no place to teach the kids, no place for the kids to learn their craft, and so you end up where you have to have an agent tell the kids what moves to do, how much time they have to do it, [and] read a teleprompter.”
He also went on to talk about the older days of professional wrestling, claiming they were far superior to the current market. “Compare any match you want from 1990 or before, to what you’re seeing now, and tell me which one you think is better.”
While he has a point about the decay of territories and the difficulty to make it in the business, you also have to realize that companies like Ring of Honor pick up the slack in some aspects, giving newer wrestlers experience before they try to climb to the WWE.
