During the Oct. 6 edition of “Monday Night Raw” in Brooklyn, Roman Reigns updated the WWE Universe about his current condition following surgery for an incarcerated hernia.
Although Reigns was in Brooklyn for the show, WWE elected to tape the interview and air the segment during the broadcast.
According to a report by RingsideNews.com, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon was visibly upset with the way the interview played out.
During the interview, Reigns said how he wants to be back in the ring sooner rather than later, although his injury could keep him out of action until 2015.
What Reigns said was completely scripted and courtesy of the creative team. McMahon wasn’t upset with what Reigns said, but how he said it.
WWE COO Triple H wanted Reigns to “come off as a badass babyface that didn’t have a care in the world.” Unfortunately, all Reigns did was look uncomfortable throughout, whether it be because he was hurting or the character management asked him to portray bothered him.
McMahon didn’t see the taped segment earlier that day, but when he did, it was said that he was “fuming.”
The backlash the segment got online didn’t help matters either.
Editor’s Note
It’s things like this that could ultimately go against Reigns becoming WWE World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania 31. Plans are for Reigns to take the belt from Brock Lesnar, but if his stock continues to take hits like this, we may see someone else be put in that spot.
