During his appearance on “The Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast,” Heyman revealed why he was paired with “The Swiss Superman” in the first place.
For those who don’t recall, Cesaro announced himself to be a “Paul Heyman Guy” the night after winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 30 in New Orleans.
Coming off Brock Lesnar’s huge victory over The Undertaker to end his infamous streak at WrestleMania, the hope was that some of the shine from that win could be rubbed off on Cesaro by having Heyman by his side, as the former ECW owner says.
WWE officials, including Chairman Vince McMahon, took notice of Cesaro, if only because of the Heyman alliance.
“As bad as it was for Cesaro, would this rematch this Sunday between Brock and The Undertaker be taking place if I didn’t spend four months on television saying absolutely nothing but, ‘My client Brock Lesnar ended The Undertaker’s winning streak at WrestleMania?'”
At the end of the day, if Cesaro-Heyman served any purpose, it was to keep the dialogue going so we could end up with a rematch that truly was “Too Big for WrestleMania.”
Lesnar vs. Undertaker will close the “SummerSlam” pay-per-view, while Cesaro will go one-on-one with former NXT Champion Kevin Owens on the card.
Editor’s Note
Cesaro is alright now. Heyman is better than ever. All is good in the WWE Universe.
