Update on Nikki Bella Possibly Breaking WWE Divas Championship Record on “Raw”

The Sept. 14 edition of “Monday Night Raw” may be a fairly historic episode for WWE’s Divas division.

Current Divas Champion Nikki Bella is set to defend her title against Team PCB member Charlotte. If she walks away with her belt still around her waist, she will officially become the longest-reigning Divas Champion in the history of the company.

Nikki officially tied former Diva AJ Lee at 295 days on Monday.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio noted during a recent airing that if Nikki defeats Charlotte on “Raw,” it will likely have a lot to do with the influence her boyfriend, John Cena, has backstage.

WWE officials have reportedly gone back and forth several times this past week on what to do with this match. It’s an especially important episode for the company, as “Monday Night Football” returns tonight for a new season, with WWE billing “Raw” as a season premiere.

Nikki vs. Charlotte is still slated to happen at the “Night of Champions” pay-per-view on Sept. 20, although that may change depending on the outcome of tonight’s title bout.

Nikki Bella hasn’t defended the Divas Championship (excluding Live Events) since defeating Paige and Tamina at “Beast in the East” on July 4.

Editor’s Note

A lot of fans have been overly critical of Nikki’s reign as champion, primarily because of A) her relationship with Cena, and B) she never defends the belt. A clean win over Charlotte tonight should help her cause…. if only just a little bit.
